Ski insurance

Many new people are going skiing each year and need to buy or upgrade their travel insurance to include ski or winter sports cover. If this is you then this page is a small guide to the general differences between normal and winter sports insurance.

Main difference

The main and most obvious difference is that the insurance policy will then cover you when you are taking part in ski activities, whether you are learning to ski or just general skiing in the mountains. Ski insurance is basically a standard travel policy with the added more dangerous activities associated with skiing.

More specific ski insurance cover

There are basically 5 more benefits on your policy:-

Off piste cover - If you venture off the pistes and stay within the resort boundaries you are normally covered to take the off piste routes. (pistes are the general area of resorts marked by specific coulered markings). please check your policy to make sure you are covered.

Piste Closure - If the lifts and runs are not open you are covered under ski insurance up to the maximum amount payable in the policy terms. If the weather is really bad or there is a problem on the pistes you can claim to reduce the loss to you.

ski hire - If you loose your equipment, it is stolen or damaged you are covered for ski hire up to the amount on your policy. Or if your equipment is delayed on way to your resort then you can also claim back any ski hire costs.

Ski pack - If you become ill then any ski hire costs maybe able to be reclaimed, this is the same with your lift pass. If you loose your lift pass then you maybe able to claim up to the amount on your policy for the loss.

Ski equipment - What happens if you loose, damage or your own or ski hired equipment is stolen? You have a maximum amount on your policy to claim for if your equipment is under 5 years old.

This is a basic guide to the differences between the General insurance and ski insurance products. If you have any further questions about travel insurance or ski cover then call us on 0870 112 8979.
